What has caused unusual wear to the tyres on my Fiat 500 Lounge?
I am the very proud owner of a 2008 Fiat 500 Lounge with low mileage of just over 11,000. Last Friday I took her for an MoT. To cut a long story short, three of the tyres had "exposed cords" and the fourth tyre was imminently heading the same way. Four tyres. I was in a state of shock. The outside walls look good and even the garage said in its report that the tread was good. It was suggested that it is "possible" that damage was done due to road surfaces. Is there anything I can do to claim even part of the £284 plus VAT?

I'd guess that the damage was caused by straddling metre-wide speed cushions. This severely abrades the inner shoulders of the tyres on the chamfered edges of the speed cushions, as demonstrated four times during the 2013 British Grand Prix. It was a consequence that no one seems to have thought about before these nasty obstructions were dumped in the highways. You could attempt to sue are the council that installed the humps using www.moneyclaim.gov.uk , but I have never heard of a successful suit for tyre damage from speed cushions.
