Would you recommend the Volvo V50 or Saab 9-3 Estate for a young family?
My daughter and her husband are about to have their first child and need a larger car. They have a limited budget of £5000. I am a believer in quality cars and have suggested either a high mileage diesel Volvo V50 or a Saab 9-3 Estate. They tend to favour a more up-to-date option such as a Peugeot 207 Estate or similar with lower mileage. I'd be grateful for your opinion on which way to go.

A V50 is actually a Focus dressed up as a Volvo and a 9-3 is actually a Vectra in a Saab suit and tie. The V50 is the better way to go, if you can actually find one for £5000. But, of course, you'll get a newer, lower mileage Focus estate for the same money. I agree with them: a Peugeot 207SW is also a practical option.
