Which comfortable automatic car to replace my BMW Z4?

I have a 2009 manual BMW Z4 2.5 which I have owned for about 10 months. It looks great but is not overly comfortable on long runs, the gear changes don't appear to be smooth, it is very impractical and I don't like the auto handbrake coupled with a manual. So I have decided to look for something else. I like the Audi A5 Quattro 3.0TDI and I have found a couple of similar age. I like the thought of better ability to cope with snow (assuming I put winter tyres on), that it is full of exciting technology and toys with the satnav, plus and driver info and has comfort and space with an auto box. Most have done 50,000 miles for the money I can spend. However, what else should I look at that offers such a package coupled with a sense of style? The A5 seems big, so something slightly smaller would be better.

Not clear if your car is a Z4 23i with electric folding hardtop or the previous Z4 2.5i soft top. BMW has just revised the Z4 yet again. That said, the A5 coupe is a nice car. Very good looking: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/audi/audi-a5-and-s.../

Smaller, the obvious choice is an S3: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/audi/audi-s3-2007-.../ Less looks. Strong performance.
