What happens if you meet an oncoming vehicle as you try to avoid a pothole?
Which law comes into play so that when approaching a particularly bad pothole (probably obscured by water) one always meets a lorry or other oversized vehicle at the crucial moment and down you go – bang! One never meets said vehicles on pothole-free sections of road, few as these are.

You are supposed to always drive at a speed appropriate to the distance of road in front that you can see to be clear. So if you swerve around a pothole and crash into another vehicle as a result it is deemed to be your fault. Unfair, but there is some logic.
