Should my wife buy a Volkswagen Golf Bluemotion?

My wife is thinking of changing her two-door car for a four-door and likes the look of Volkswagen Golf Bluemotion 2010/11, but a mechanic friend said they can be a problem. Can you please advise as we don't want to stuck with an expensive lemon.

The 1.6 TDI diesel engine is not suitable for repeated short runs from cold starts. If she will be travelling 20,000 miles a year in the car then the 1.6TDI starts to make sense. Otherwise, better a 1.2TSI 105 or 1.4TSI 122.
