My Corolla Verso has had repeated faults - can I demand a full refund?

I bought a Toyota Corolla Verso from a garage at the end of August 2012. Since buying the car I have had numerous problems with it, ranging from electric windows not working to malfunctions of the brakes and ABS system. In the six months I have owned the car it has been in the garage for eight weeks. In Oct 2012 it went into the garage as the ABS and traction control warning lights kept on coming on, and after diagnostics they said it needed a new pressure switch. They fitted this the following week. Six days later the lights came on again. It went back to them. They then said they had fitted a new ABS pump and had it reprogrammed. It is now back with them again as the lights have come on again and the garage has said it is showing the same fault. They have also said it is not a new pump, its from a company that do refurbished parts.

I have contacted Trading Standards twice about this and have followed their advice. I have written to the General Manager and told him this is totally unacceptable and have given him seven days to organise a full refund on the car as I am concerned about safety. I am heavily pregnant and have two other children. I therefore need a reliable car that is in full working order. The garage has taken my car and said it has to go to Toyota to have diagnostics run on it before they decide what to do. Am I backed by law to demand a refund? I appreciate you reading this and hope to hear from you soon

If the amount in question is less than £5000, you are in a strong position because you can take the small claims track and small claims judges invariably find in the plaintiff's favour against dealers. If it's more than £5000, then that means the colossal expense of a full county court case which you could lose. It's not cut and dried. All UK statutory law is modified by case law.
