Can I recommend Dr Tranny Lubeguard Instant Shudder for autobox oil changes in the Land Rover Discovery 3?
I noticed in your column at the weekend some advice to someone about a judder and an autobox oil change. This is becoming a more frequent problem in the Discovery 3. Dealers will do a double flush of the box to remove the old fluid. However, unfortunately, this still leaves some of the old fluid. It's also expensive as the oil is an insane price. Lots of us are using mega flushes (which can be used on any box) - it's essentially a dialysis process that never mixes new and old oil. It gives really great results and is done by mobile technicians. For some, this isn't fixing the issue long term - there are also rumours of glycol from leaking radiators contaminating the oil.
However, one thing that's consistently working is Dr Tranny Lubeguard Instant Shudder (hilarious name). It's used widely in the States and Australia and hasn't really made it over here, apparently. Anyway - for the best part of a tenner for a couple of tubes of it, it seems to cure the issue - or at least it has done for plenty of friends. When mine starts to go again, I'll definitely try it first.

That helps a lot. Really useful. And is why I recommend using www.fedauto.co.uk members for the dialysis drain. You cannot fully drain a torque converter auto any other way. The heat exchanger problem is common with a lot of cars, but, interestingly, the engineers at Renault started fitting the transmission heat exchanger outside the radiator from the advent of the most recent model Laguna. I will be sure to add the tip about Dr Tranny Lubeguard Instant Shudder.
