Which company car for my colleague will handle A and B-roads, congestion and motorways?

A colleague travels from work in Lancashire to home in mid-Wales every week. She runs a company car on a three-year lease. For the first time she has decided to run a 4WD to cope better with the journey in bad weather. She has a short list of two cars, either a Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TDI 170ps 4-Motion, or the new Honda CR-V. Which of the two cars would serve her best on winter A and B-roads, the summer congestion going from work to home, and business motorway miles covering 70,000 miles?

There's less need to worry about diesel particulate filters when it's not your car. The Tiguan is a sharper, sportier drive. The CR-V on 17-inch or 18-inch wheels is more comfortable. In that price range there is also the Mazda CX-5 with Skyactive engine. There will soon be a new Ford Kuga: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/ford/ford-kuga-20-.../. There's also the Audi Q3 and, later this month, there will be a new Toyota RAV4.
