Best family car for £10,000?

What car would you recommend to replace our 1997 Toyota Picnic?
We prefer Japanese cars and want to spend £10,000 on a manual with a petrol engine. Any ideas?

Honda FR-V, if you can find one: 2.0iVTEC, 1.8iVTEC or 2.2iCTDI. Avoid the 1.7 petrol engine.
