Petrol smell coming from heater

My Vauxhall Astra (2005) starts and drives fine; however, every 2/3 days I'm having to top up the engine coolant level and there's a strong smell of petrol/fumes when I use my heater for any longer than a few minutes.

I've checked and can't spot any signs of leaks from the engine coolant or anything else under the hood. Do you know what the fault may be?

Reads to me as if the heater matrix inside the car is leaking. That explains the coolant loss and the smell.
