Ford Focus - Error code P1131

I own a 2002 Ford Focus 2.0 petrol, with 125,000 miles on the clock. The other day, whilst idling at a roundabout, the yellow engine light came on. I took it to a Ford garage and they said that error code P1131 came up. They reset the code and charged me £96 for "investigative" work, which found a leak on the inlet manifold. I was also told the manifold needed replacing and quoted £400.

I booked it in only to be told later that I had been given the wrong information and that the Hego was not a manifold but a sensor and now they need to do some more "investigative" work and that they need to replace the seals at a cost of £215.

I am now concerned that I being led up the garden path and that I could end up with a massive bill. Can someone please advise me as to the best course of action?

As far as I can gather, a Hego sensor is a lambda sensor which you may or may not need. So the worst case scenario is £400. The best case is £250 for replacing the manifold that contains swirl flaps.
