Being sued following a road accident - shouldn't my insurance company deal with this?
I had a minor accident 10 months ago. It was my fault and my insurance company appeared to have sorted it out with no issues. However, I have just received a court summons to pay the other party's car hire cost (their damaged vehicle was a delivery vehicle). They are also claiming interest up to the time I pay.
This is the first I have heard of this, shouldn't my insurance company have sorted this out?

Yes, your insurer should have sorted this out. The reason it hasn't is probably that the other party's claim was handled by an accident management specialist and they put him into a credit hire vehicle at an inflated cost (which is how they make their money).
If your insurer won't help you fight this, what you have to do is prove that the amount being asked is extortionate by comparing it with rental vehicle rates from at least three different rental companies.
