Can you recommend a small car for an elderly driver?

My mother in her 80s needs to buy a small petrol car with a good automatic gearbox. She is concerned about accident protection, so wants SIP and lots of airbags. She likes diesels, but obviously wants to avoid DPFs. What do you recommend?

For a 4-speed torque converter box it would now have to be a Hyundai i20, Hyundai ix20 or KIA Venga. The outgoing Nissan Note 1.6 auto was also 4 speed torque converter.
