What's the best method for fixing a minor scratch?

My wife had her Volkswagen Polo scratched in a car park recently and the perpetrator left a note. I am keen to keep the cost down in view of his honesty and avoid involving my insurer. I am considering one of the 'at home' repairers such as Autorestore. Will this fix it?

Depends entirely on the nature of the scratch. Some can be 'invisibly' repaired. Others can't:

I just bought a 3-year-old car from a main Toyota dealer. It was top money. The advert did not give any indication of the condition but you would expect a decent condition for a car with only 16,300 miles...
