I'm retiring to France and would like a new car - should I buy it here in the UK or in France?

I'm hoping to retire to France in the near future. At this point, there should be sufficient cash to purchase a new vehicle. I am looking at a Volkswagen Sharan or Tiguan or similar. Do I buy one here or do I buy it new in France? Obvious things to consider are the lights and LH vs RH drive, as well as insurance.

If the car is going to stay in France permanently, you're better off buying it there. It'll make life a lot easier for you in the long run and you won't have to worry about extra paperwork when you come to re-register a UK car as French.
