Problems with recently bought used car

Four months ago I bought a used 2005 Vauxhall Zafira, with 44,000 miles on the clock from a used car dealer for £4000. It has been rarely used since I bought it, but I noticed that the heating wasn't working after a couple of months.

I have had it looked at a different garage and they have since told me there is no thermostat in the car. I have also had problems starting the engine and the garage has told me this could be a serious issue involving the fuel pump. They have advised me to get rid of the car.

Can I ask for my money back from the dealer? Where do I stand and what options do I have?

A lack of a thermostat would not prevent the heater from working. It would merely mean that the engine would take longer to heat up. So I suspect the electric valve between the engine coolant pipes and the heater matrix is jammed shut.
