Second hand Peugeot Warranties

I Bought a 2009 Peugeot 3008 in February from a main dealer. The car had 11,000 miles on the clock and the purchase included a 12 month parts and labour warranty. I also paid extra for the warranty to be extended for an additional year. I assumed that the warranty was with Peugeot, but it later transpired that it’s with a warranty company.

On receiving the paperwork (after the purchase) the small print demands a non-returnable fee of £53 for each claim. According to the paperwork, the money is for a diagnostic check to determine if the claim is valid under the warranty.

I have made a claim that was diagnosed as a faulty temperature sensor and I managed to persuade the dealer to forego the £53. But, in case of future claims, is this 'diagnostic fee' a norm with such warranty policies?

I only ask, because within days of the purchase I noticed that the two decorative chrome strips (one on each sill) were showing signs of blistering. The dealer has said that bright metal trims are excluded from their bodywork guarantees and from the extended warranty. After arguing, I have been offered 'a goodwill gesture' of the trims being replaced for £133. Does this seem fair and reasonable to you?

Typical dodgy self-funding warranty. Since you purchased the car in February which was at most five months ago you are entitled to demand that the corroded trimstrips are replaced free of charge: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
