Buying an automatic used Audi A6 - recommendations?

My friend came across an Audi A6 2004 1.8 with 111,000 miles to it. The asking price for that is around £1700. It has no history of accidents and runs good.

Do you recommend this car? What could be the running cost of this car per year? My annual mileage is not more than 8000 miles.

Also, among BMW 3-series, Mercedes-Benz C-class and Audi A4/A6 - which is a better automatic car and what is the life of these cars as most of the used cars have already at 100k miles?

The cost of fixing problems with this car will be related to a car that originally cost £30,000 rather than the £1,700 being asked for it. Belt cam engine, but quite a good one. Can't say more than that because it's 9 years old and there could be all kinds of trouble in store. You don't avoid trouble by buying a £30,000 'quality' car for £1,700. You are more likely to avoid it by buying a £10,000 Yaris for £1,700.
