Sheet steel thickness in modern cars?
I have seen various comments by posters on this site suggesting that modern Ford cars sound "tinny" and a colleague also made the same comment, quite independently, about his fairly recent Fiesta model.
Is there any evidence that Ford use a thinner gauge steel or is it likely to be down to the design of doors, for instance?

What manufacturers now do is vary the thickness and type of steel throughout the car body to give maximum strength where it is needed with minimum weight.
