Can a tyre fixed with 'slime' be permanently repaired?

I had a recent puncture repaired by the AA who were very good.

They repaired the tyre with 'slime,' and gave me leaflets about, how even though this is a temporary repair, the tyre can still be repaired post slime injection.

Needless to say I have tried Halfords and Kwik Fit and two independents, who all state that they will not repair a tyre filled with slime, only replace it.

I'm not on a witch hunt regarding the AA but it seems their advice was wrong and no-one to date will repair a slime temporary repair.

Has anyone encountered similar problems?

Slime claims that because it is water based a tyre temporarily repaired with it can still be cleaned out and repaired. But, of course, this takes time. And Halfords and Kwik Fit would rather employ its people more profitably having them replace tyres.
