What is the best used diesel car for under £8000?
I'm looking at buying a used car that will ideally be economical, fun to drive and (hopfully) last 5-6 years. In your opinion, what is the best diesel car to buy for under £8000 with less than 30,000 on the clock? I've had some bad luck with cars, and more recently have been forking out a small fortune on a petrol. I was considering the 2008 1.5 DCi 106hp Megane as it is road tax band C, but I have heard they have severe reliability problems.

If it's the previous Megane you're looking at then it's best to be aware that it didn't have a great reputation for reliability. The latest Megane looks more promising in terms of long term durability, but only time will truly tell. For a blend of reliability, economy and fun, the SEAT Leon with a TDI engine is a good choice. However, for more choice, consider a Ford Focus TDCI. It's reliable and great to drive plus there are plenty on the secondhand market to choose from.
