Why are two dealers charging different prices for the same used car?
Searching on the official website I found two used Volkswagen Sharans within my budget of £20,000. One was at the local dealership, the other was in another dealership approximately 30 miles away. I visited the Swindon dealership with my husband but they were unable to find the keys for the car on their forecourt. We mentioned that we had seen another car for £20,000 on the website and that we would go and see that one.
The local dealer said that he could get the car driven to over to save us the trip and, having three very young children, we agreed. We decided to buy the car and went inside to complete the paperwork, etc. Then we were told that the price of the car was £21,995 and that £20,000 was only the price that the other garage was marketing the car at. At this point we left in disgust, but what should we have done in the situation?

If true, that is both utterly disgraceful and patently ridiculous. Why should the local sales manager think you would be prepared to pay £2000 or even £1000 simply for the convenience of buying the car locally? Get in touch with the other dealer and, if he still owns the car, buy it from him for £20,000. Or walk away.
