Which tyres for our Audi A4?
We have an Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TDI which is almost six years old with just over 69,000 miles. The rear tyres are approaching replacement after 36,000 miles (including 4000 temporarily on the front). Previously, the original tyres had been replaced, on your recommendation, by Michelin Primacy; the rear ones after 33,000 miles. We have recently experienced a hollow rolling/drumming noise, mainly from the back seats and especially when going slow or on poor surfaces. Our local friendly workshop, specialising in German cars, has checked the car and diagnosed uneven, raised tread or 'feathering' on the older/rear tyres. Which tyres would you recommend we use this time?

The noise is normal for low profile tyres once they are more than 75 per cent worn because, like racing ‘slicks’, more tyre then comes into contact with the road. The new Michelin Primacy 3 that replaced Primacy HPs arrived in February, otherwise an alternative is Goodyear Excellence.
