Why can't people park within a single bay?
I am often dismayed at the selfish drivers who park up to half a car length from the start or end of a parking bay, thus taking up two parking spaces. If I left a note under their wiper blade saying, "In future would you please park closer to the end line of the parking bay thus not taking up two parking spaces," would I be breaking any laws?

You might get a fist in your face. But take comfort from the likelihood that if this is street parking, the local parking attendants will ticket each and every one of these offending drivers in order to make up their quotas and keep their jobs.
