Can you recommend an enjoyable 4x4 crossover for my mother?
We are looking for a bit of car buying advice. My dad recently passed away and my mum is now thinking she needs a vehicle which is a bit more practical (and economical) in a Yorkshire winter, something like a 4x4 or crossover. She loves to drive, and is currently driving a Ford S-Max Titanium - a car she enjoys but which is clearly too large for her current requirements.
Her budget is in the region of £18-22,000, and she would prefer a newer car (12-18 months old). She has looked at a Skoda Yeti, but dismissed it out of hand as ugly. She quite likes the look of the RAV4, but a quick review of the internet would suggest there are a lot more options out there to consider. Any suggestions of where to start, and what would be your preferred option?

She can now order a new RHD four-wheel drive Dacia Duster from £10,995 for delivery in January. The maximum price of a Duster 4WD is £14,995. She doesn't need to spend £18,000 - £22,000. Alternatives include the Toyota Urban Cruiser 1.4D-4D 4WD and the forthcoming Vauxhall Mokka.
