BMW 328i or Mercedes-Benz E-Class - which should I buy?

I am looking to purchase a new car and, as I only cover about 6000 miles a year, I've shortlisted the BMW 328i and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe 250CGI, both with automatic gearboxes. I am looking for a degree of comfort and a mix of style, performance and reliability. Which make and model will in your opinion be the best buy?
