Is my Jaguar XF about to suffer a DPF problem?

I have just read your comments on diesel particulate filters and am a little concerned as I have a 2010 Jaguar 3.0d XF Premium Lux which I bought new, and I was never advised that the DPF could cause problems. My driving is mostly short trips at low speed and the DPF warning light has appeared twice in 8000 miles. To clear the filter I drive for 10 miles at 60 to 70mph, which seems to do the necessary. As a result I am considering changing the car, even though it has dropped £10,000 in a year. Can you recommend a quality replacement petrol car that can cope with the possibility of snow for under £35,000?

It's cheaper to carry on as you are, simply remaining aware that a succession of short runs from cold will clog the DPF. These engines can also suffer from clogged EGRs. I think Jaguar has now dropped the 3.0-litre V6 petrol version of the XF.

The best thing for winter is a set of winter tyres, but the Jag would need 17-inch or 18-inch wheels for these, not 19-inch or 20-inch. A Subaru Legacy would be the answer for the snow as all models, petrol and diesel, are four wheel drive, but they too are better on winter tyres in the winter.
