A dealer won't give me any more than £8000 for my Audi A6 against a BMW Z4 - is he trying it on?
I have a 2005 55-plate Audi A6 Avant 2.7 TDI S-Line with full leather, Hi-line MMI, 11 months MoT and FSH with 90,000 miles. I have today been to BMW Stafford to test drive a 54-plate 2004 BMW Z4 3.0 SE auto with 51,000 miles. They want £12,990 for the Z4 and have offered me £8000 for the Audi. I have been on Glass' website and it says part-exchange values for the Z4 are £10,800 and for the Audi £9200. The dealer won't budge and has said I can't go by Glass's guide, and still wants £5000 plus the Audi in part-ex. Is he trying it on?

Hello. It depends how keen the dealer is to have your A6 Avant. It's coming up for five years old, which means it's touch-and-go whether the dealer would want to retail it - assuming it's a main dealer. If he wasn't retailing it, it's likely that it would be sold to another dealer, an independent, or auctioned - which is reflected in the price you've been offered. Also, have you mileage-adjusted the Glass's Guide price? 90,000 miles is a little high (though not excessively so) for this age of car. If you haven't, you may find the Glass's price is closer to the one the dealer is offering. You'll get a much better price if you sell privately. There's a reasonably strong market for your car.
