Which cheap, diesel car should my son, who lives in France, buy?
You've kindly (and very promptly) answered a couple of questions regarding my son in France buying a car on a limited budget of 5000 Euros. He's scrubbed the Ford Fiesta 1.4 petrol or diesel. He prefers a diesel, as the fuel is cheaper in France, so is the 1.6 diesel Fiesta/Focus a good buy or would a Renault/Citroen be as good (Volkswagens being more expensive)?

A far better bet is a Toyota Yaris 1.4 D-4D (which is actually made in France), if he can find one. They are so good that few owners let them go.
