Would you recommend the Skoda Octavia diesel to cover 12,000 miles a year?
I'm thinking of buying a new 1.6 diesel hatchback which I will keep for five or more years. Firstly, with annual mileage at 12,000 miles, is this the right choice? Secondly, is the Octavia likely to be replaced any time soon and, finally, is there any other make which you might recommend? A big boot for golf clubs is essential.

The Octavia 1.6 TDI is ideal for that mileage as it's well built and reliable, plus that engine is incredibly economical. The current Octavia was facelifted last year and most facelifted cars have another three to four years of life left before they are replaced. For the money - and given its size - few cars are as good as the Octavia or as cheap to run. It's certainly the best recommendation.
