2006 BMW 320d, 66000 mileage. FSH. Turbo has gone. Is this much too early for it to have gone?
My turbo has just blown. Mileage is only 66k. Is it very early for the turbo to go? The BMW garage checked the car and said that my oil was gloopy, and both this and the air filter were well overdue for a service. My service history book proves that the oil service was done, (all servicing is up to date, and I've had this car since 2007, carefully driven.)
And onboard computer says that it's not due for another 11,000 miles. Could the oil and air filter problems cause the turbo to blow, as claimed by the BMW garage? They are blaming the turbo going on the oil and air filters.
What do you think the chances of BMW giving me a good will gesture (£1700 repair bill.) Many thanks

In my view Longlife service regimes are inadequate and emails from readers show that they lead to timing chain and turbo failures. You need to change the oil and filter at least every year or 10k miles whichever comes first. And when the new turbo is fitted, ask for a new oil feed pipe as well because this could be coked up and not feeding enough oil to the turbo.
