Buyer upset with the car I sold?
I sold my MG last November (2012) for £650.00, £50.00 less than advertised as the seller stated it was all he had. I advertised as a fun car, all things that go wrong ie head gasket and radiator have been replaced.
I verbally told the buyer this but stated I hadn't had them done, rather I was informed of them having been done when I purchased. I had it serviced and had only had it for 4 months. The car was in excellent condition inside and out and in full working order. He refused a test drive or inspection and drove it away.
He contacted me approx two or three weeks later as he hadn't got the V5, I had taken my part to the post office but when I rang DVLA they said this happened all the time, docs getting lost, and advised of the correct form for the buyer to obtain.
This I passed to the buyer via a text. Nothing further heard, I then received contact from the buyer saying that the head gasket had gone, I received a letter yesterday informing me that unless I make a formal offer of £420 he will take me to court as he had been seduced in to the sale as he was made to believe that all parts that go wrong had been replaced.
He took this to be within the last 12 months or 10k miles! I never suggested such a thing, I gave all the history that I had including my receipt for a service.
In his letter he goes on to say there is a receipt for a head gasket 2007 at approx 54k miles, 36k prev to my sale. He has stated that the £420.00 he is claiming is £650 less £180 scrappage and 50 deprivation.
He had ran the vehicle for a month clocking up 190 miles. I have no mechanical knowledge - I purchased the car because the weather was nice and I wanted a little fun girly convertible for the summer, I owned it for 4 months. What can I do I am really concerned?

He has no consumer rights against you over a private sale. He bought an extremely cheap car at virtually a scrap price that is known to have a head gasket problem - so he took that risk.
