Changing from SEAT Leon 2.0 TFSI-what would you recommend?

I'd like to change my 6year old (50k) SEAT Leon 2.0 TFSI FR within the next year.

I don't do big miles but would like something a bit more economical, refined and comfortable, yet still fun with a bit of sporty handling.

I'm concerned about the problems with Volkswagen's 1.4TSI (160) engine and I'm not a fan of French cars, the Abarth 500 was too coarse for me at cruising speed, which was a pity.

I'd like something classy, with good residuals as well please.
