I'm looking for a second hand car - a smallish but stylish family hatchback - and am keen on diesel's mpg and torque but am mindful of the cautionary tales you tell of subjecting these to short runs - and the problems associated with complicated setups (like DPF and DMF problems).

My budget is about £15000 and I like the looks of the Volvo C30.
