Looking for a 4x4

I own a Vauxhall Vivaro van for business use and an ageing BMW 323ci for private use. During the winter I have trouble getting about in snowy or icy conditions so I'm therefore looking to trade in the BMW for a 4x4 for pleasure use, but with enough boot space to carry power tools etc. for business use when conditions are bad. I'm not keen on estate cars. Can you recommend a suitable vehicle to meet my needs? It doesn't have to be new but I'd prefer a vehicle that's no more than a couple of years old. My budget can be up to £15k.

Honda CR-V 2.2iCTDI. That's CTDI, not IDTEC, because CTDI avoids a diesel particulate filter and all the problems that brings. Not quick, but very comfortable. Best on 17" or 18" wheels. Avoid 19" wheels unless you are a masochist and enjoy discomfort, as well as frequently having to pay for very expensive replacement tyres. Obviously much better in winter on cold weather tyres such as Michelin Latitude Alpin, or all weather tyres such as Bridgestone A001s that you can leave on all year round.
