DPF faulty or not?

My son has had one of these for about 4 months and I am bitterly regretting the advice I gave him to buy a diesel. The car is 08 and about 80k, has run without problems, no warning lights, suddenly cut out while cold on Motorway entry ramp, ie under load. He does 15-20 mins Mway driving twice a day so the dpf should be regenerating properly. Could be restarted after a few mins. Stopped again today under same conditions.

Dealer did a diagnostic (don't know the code but said the diagnostic stops at the first fault) and then informed that the dpf was stuffed, complete kit and caboodle replacement was £1400. Scandalous.

Since there have been no warning lights, how can they know the dpf is stuffed, as the car has not been examined at all. Could it be something at the injector end? If additive pump failed would this cause filter blockage by itself?

Can I get the dealer to guarantee the repair, i.e. if the diagnosis is not correct that they will refund??

Finally, as the car cut out, if related to the DPF, isn't this a serious safety recall issue, if the management system cut the power itself?

If this has the old PSA Eolys system then it may only need the fluid replenishing, and it may be possible to then regenerate the DPF. The dealer is quoting for the whole kit and caboodle partly because he'll make more money and partly because that gives a better chance of an effective one-off repair.

DPFs only normally last 80k - 120k anyway. Check around. Ask a few Citroen and Peugeot dealers who use the same engines and same system (and in fact developed them).
