Bought used van- air con not working

07 June 2012- I bought a van from Anchor Vans
06 July- drove van for first time after buying it, air con was not working
20 July- local garage did air con service/ diagnostics- condenser cracked
27 July- local garage fitted new condenser, re-gassed air con system, Anchor Vans paid for diagnostics and repairs
13 August- air con not working again
15 August- local garage replaced 2 valves that may have been leaking gas, re-gassed the air con free of charge
September- air con slowly stops working again
10 September- if the air con works at all, it is barely working

My questions are - where do I stand, what are my legal rights? I am annoyed that Anchor Vans sold a van with faulty air con, they should have checked that the van was working in every aspect. When I bought the van, they said I could take it to a local garage for repairs should it require repairs. Everything worked out fine when the air con was fixed. But when the air con stopped working in August, I was told that the warranty department would not pay for any more diagnostics & repairs and that I would have to take the van back to Anchor Vans (200 mile trip) for the air con to be fixed. I am driving to Germany and Hungary in 2 weeks and need working air con for the trip. So I was wondering if you could advise me:

Do I have to take the van back to Anchor vans or can I "demand" they pay for diagnostics and repairs done locally?

If I need to take it back to Anchor Vans, can I ask them to pay for fuel and possible overnight stay in a B&B (and for all the inconveniences)?

Could I take the van back for a refund?

Could the new condenser be faulty? What are the chances that the condenser was broken *and* there being another fault?

Please help me, with my trip coming up I am getting really stressed as to what options I have. Sorry this is long...

You have to take the van back to Anchor Vans to be fixed and they do not have to pay for overnight accommodation. I nights stay anyway assumes that it can be fixed in a day. Your rights are here:bwww.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
