I recently made and insurance claim following an accident where I was stationery and the third party was travelling at relatively low speed. I was judged to have been at fault which is an everyday motoring hazard and the way things go sometimes. What really shocked me was not the increase in my insurance premium and the loss of 2 years NCB but the final amount of over £11000 paid out by my insurers in settlement of all party’s costs. It could not possibly have cost this amount in repairs. Am I able to register any objection or ask to see a breakdown of these costs?

The third part probably went with an 'accident management company' that delayed the repair and put him in a credit hire car for the duration. The credit hire rental fee could have been twice the cost of the repair. Insurers rarely challenge this because the admin, legal and court cost of the challenge can amount to more than the claim.
