Which car with car allowance from my company?

I'm being offered a company car for the first time or the option of a car allowance, but only so long as the car is under 5 years old. I am leaning towards the car allowance option, but I would like advice on which is the best option. If I go for the car allowance what cars should I consider - I've been considering the Focus or Golf but am open to ideas.

If you're going to own it, then get something with a long warranty. Toyota, Hyundai 5 years. KIA 7 years. Vauxhall 'Lifetime' (but the meaning is a bit obscure).
