Buying a used Mercedes-Benz

I can afford up to £13,000 and drive less than 3,000 miles a year and wish to upgrade to a Mercedes, can you recommended which model would be best to buy and keep for 10 years plus? Car used mainly for short trips, you normally recommend high mileage cars which is fine. Any reason not to buy manual v automatic? Any pitfalls to look out for - Car Giant have these cars in stock.

For this sort of mileage petrol better than diesel. C Class petrols easier to find then E Class. Automatic by far preferable.
