Overfilling with oil?

I just changed my oil an my oil filter on my Xsara Picasso 2,0 HDI 2001.

However I put 5l of oil in and realised now it is just a tiny bit above the max level on the thread.

I did 200 miles this weekend and no problem what so ever.
Is there a risk to carry on like this?
What is the capacity of the oil I should put? I have been told 4.5 litres, but could not confirm anywhere.

I bought full synthetic oil 5 w 40 as recommended by Euro car parts.

If it is a tiny bit over then you should not have any problems.

Yes 5W /40 is the correct grade and 4.5 Litres is the correct capacity.

In future always err on the low side when topping up/ replacing and also wait a minute for the oil to drain down into the sump before taking a reading.

Run the engine when after filling, for about 3 mins, and then leave for 1 minute - then re check the level.
