Alternative to bucket seats
There is generally much talk of bucket seats being uncomfortable and further to this I have two questions please (1) what alternative type or types of seats are available and (2) why do most manufacturers use bucket style seats if they are problematic? thanks

Generally, 'bucket' type seats are fitted to 'sports' models and flat seats to non sports models. The idea of a bucket seat is to hold the driver in place when cornering hard. But different people have different bodies, so some bucket seats are excruciatingly uncomfortable for some people, especially fat people, and even normal sized people can find their backs pinched by high seatback bolsters.
