Small-minded

After two years on non-driving due to medical problems, I have had my licence returned and I am now considering buying a car. It will only be used for doing the shopping and short journeys; therefore a small car seems to be the answer. Budget of up to £8,000. Priorities are safety and reliability of the car together with economy. What would you suggest I purchase?

Get a new Hyundai i10 1.2 or a new KIA Picanto and benefit from their long warranties.
