Filter tips
I'd never owned a diesel-engined car before I bought my pre-registered 2005/55 Volvo V70 in March 2006. It's a delight to drive: a real mile-eater, and very comfortable. But at the time I bought it I'd never heard of problems such as particulate filters and the dreaded Dual Mass Flywheels. It's entirely thanks to your columns that I now know these problems exist. The particulate filter aspect I cope with by always using the air conditioning. But I have no idea whether my car has a DMF. The Volvo main dealer from whom I bought the car described it as a 2.4D (Euro III) SE 5 door, with a maximum engine output of 163bhp @ 4,000 rpm. From this description, can you please tell me whether or not it has a DMF? If it has, is there any mileage or age when any problems are likely to show up?

If it's manual it will have a DMF. If it's torque converter automatic it doesn't need one. Running the air-conditioning will have no effect on the diesel particulate filter. The DPF is part of the exhaust system. I think you are confusing it with the cabin pollen filter.
