Freedom’s just another word

I've been following the Clause 56 of The Protection of Freedoms Bill here and in the DT with interest. Since the riots and subsequent e-petition showing that for once the British People seem to be able to shrug off their normal apathy, I have created an e-petition asking for clause 56 to be removed from the bill before the house at the moment: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/6342 A discussion in one of the back room threads has given me a few other forums where we may be able to drum up more signatures but whatever help you can give may (unless the apathy re-asserts itself) give us the extra momentum. We are most unlikely to reach the 100,000 signatures required but the petition can still be used by our local MPs to highlight the feeling of the general public when discussing this matter with the DfT. My MP, Peter Bone, has already agreed to follow this up on his return after the summer recess.

In case any readers are unfamiliar with clause 56, it will allow any member of the British Parking Association to pursue any registered keeper of any car for any parking penalty the BPA member cooks up. It’s an outrageous licence to exploit.
