How can I contact the DVLA to tell them I've sold a car?
In March I was having my car touched up and improved at the motor engineers I have used for some years, Simon Green Ltd., Leeds. Whist there a motor dealer who was obtaining a MoT for another car spoke to me and agreed to buy my Omega for cash. He went to the bank and came back with the agreed sum and left and I returned with the logbook, service manual and service records. The road tax ran until 30th June and the MoT expired on the same day. I signed the ‘sellers’ section of the logbook in the presence of Mr. Simon Green himself and left him to give all the documents to the buyer. Then I picked up the money and left. I cancelled the insurance a couple of days later.
This morning I have received a renewal reminder to get a tax disc. Obviously the buyer has not registered my car. Can you advise me on how to proceed, please? I have three children to run around and cannot afford any points or a driving ban. The conditions the DVLA operates under do not allow for email explanations or personal phone calls. Would you suggest that I re-activate the insurance or even go to the police to see if I can cover myself? Mr. Green is away for a couple of days and non of his staff can help me.

Telephone DVLA Customer Enquiries on 0300 790 6802 to tell them you disposed of the car. You should have completed and sent Section 9 of the V5C to the DVLA by Special Delivery.
