What do you think of the Mazda 5 1.6 diesel?
I was interested to read that you are currently running a Mazda 5 1.6 diesel. I sold my 5-year-old 63,000 mile Mazda 5 1.9d Sport prior to going on a long trip to New Zealand and am now looking to replace it. It was an excellent car other than the tyre wear issue. We don't really need seven seats, but we do long trips to our home in France and valued the load carrying capacity and powerful diesel engine for the motorways. I have been considering the Hyundai ix35 2.0 diesel, but would be interested to know if you think we would be disappointed with the power of the smaller-engined Mazda if we decided to stick with that model.

I'm fine with it, and its gearing. Very comfortable indeed. Soft suspension. Handles ten times better than the old one because the engine and transmission are 120 kilos lighter. And it has truly excellent cruise control. Currently averaging 46mpg, it can't seem to better 47mpg but doesn't get much worse than 46. Mine is the TS2 on the more pothole-absorbing 205/55 R16 tyres. Unfortunately you can't get factory-fitted satnav in the UK.
