My Jaguar XF returns 40-41mpg which is close to the official figure of 42mpg.
Some manufacturers seem to manage to make their cars deliver closer to the official fuel figures than others. As the owner of a Jaguar XF diesel I get a steady 40 - 41 mpg on mixed (60 per cent dual carriageway and motorway) driving, in spite of using the performance as required. The official combined figure is 42mpg, so I am perfectly happy with that.

Please add your figure to www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg.
We recently awarded the Jaguar XJL 3.0V6 diesel "The most surprisingly economical car" after achieving 41mpg over 692 miles, while Martin Gurdon managed 42mpg from a Jaguar XJ SWB 3.0V6 diesel. Virtually all the serious EC fuel economy anomalies are where manufacturers optimise engines to achieve an unrealistic and fantastically low CO2 in the EC tests. Don't trust any figures for cars that claim to be under 100g/km CO2. Though (in a personal endurance test) HJUK’s David Ross did manage to complete seven circumnavigations of the M25 in a Polo Bluemotion, which represented 834.5 miles at a mpg of 84.6 (his regular average mpg is 61.4).
