Betta getta ESPer
My 2006 Skoda Octavia 4x4TDI PD estate has signalled the dreaded ESP light error. I took the car to my local Skoda dealer who confirmed my worst fears and I have been quoted £1,429.94 to have a new module supplied and fitted. I came across some Internet postings that suggested Skoda will repair for a varying percentage of this. My car has full Skoda service history up to its last one, where the service was carried out by another garage. Also the car is about 4 months out of warranty and has done just over 63k miles. Although the local Skoda dealer is speaking directly to Skoda customer care to see if they will stand the cost of this repair or part of the repair, I have my doubts as to whether they will help and would like to have as much information to assist in making sure they do the right thing. I have also seen one article posted where they say this is straight forward “insufficiently durable” under the Sale of Goods Act and I should go to small claims court and should get 100% payout.

Instead of replacing ATE Teves Mk 60 ABS/ESP modules, VAG is now doing what I suggested to them 18 months ago and is repairing the pressure sensor part that fails, possibly using the specialists I mentioned: www.ecutesting.co.uk or www.sinspeed.co.uk , just as BMW does. The cost of the repair is £350 + VAT, + removing and refitting the modules. Without any contribution from Skoda, the total comes to about £650 - £700.
