My 2008 Toyota RAV4 has a smart entry keyless system. This morning I went into a nearby garage to fill up with petrol and when I attempted to restart the car, I got the message that the key was not present. Of course it was and the battery had recently been changed. After a few minutes of head scratching and blocking the petrol pump, the woman from the garage informed me that this often happened (and had done so for about two months) lately as someone unknown to them had erected a transmitter of some sort and cars with a keyless entry system (not just Toyota) often failed.

Fortunately, there was a small automotive garage with an electronics expert opposite the petrol station. He confirmed what the woman had said and that the 'device' could not be traced. By cleverly waving the key fob around inside the car and continually pressing the ignition button, he managed to get the car started. He said he had managed to locate a sort of blind spot inside the car and that I was very lucky indeed. My question is, have you ever heard of this before and if so do you know of a 'cure'?
